About the Image Converter
Websites and apps do not always accept the image format you have. This image converter changes pictures between JPG, PNG and WebP, and can also open GIF and BMP files. Everything happens in your browser, so you can convert private photos and screenshots without uploading them anywhere.
Each image is decoded by your browser and drawn onto a canvas at its full pixel size. The canvas is then saved in the format you chose. JPG and WebP are lossy formats that use the quality slider to trade file size against detail. PNG is lossless and keeps every pixel, which makes the file larger but sharp.
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white before saving. PNG and WebP keep transparency. Converting an image that was already compressed does not restore lost detail, so convert from the original when you can. If your browser cannot create a format, for example WebP in some older Safari versions, the tool tells you instead of silently giving you a different file. File names keep the original name with the new extension.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
Use JPG for photos, PNG for screenshots, logos and anything that needs transparency, and WebP when you want small files for a website.
Why does my transparent PNG have a white background as JPG?
JPG has no transparency. The tool fills transparent areas with white. Use PNG or WebP if you need to keep transparency.
Will converting reduce image quality?
Converting to JPG or WebP can lose a little detail, depending on the quality slider. PNG keeps everything but makes larger files.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 images, convert them together and download each result.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and your files stay on your device.
