Image Compressor
Shrink JPG, PNG and WebP files in your browser without uploading.
Quality applies to JPG and WebP. PNG files keep full quality, so they shrink less. Choose WebP to save more.
Your files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.
How to use the Image Compressor
- Choose your images or drop them onto the box.
- Set the quality, and optionally a maximum width or height.
- Press Compress and wait while each image is processed.
- Check the before and after sizes, then download each compressed image.
About the Image Compressor
Large photos slow down websites, fill up inboxes and use up storage. This image compressor shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP files right in your browser, so your pictures are never uploaded to a server. Add one image or twenty, choose a quality level, and compare the size before and after for every file.
Each image is decoded by your browser, drawn onto a canvas and saved again as a JPG or WebP file at the quality you choose. Lower quality discards fine detail that the eye barely notices, which can cut a photo to a fraction of its size. Setting a maximum width or height reduces the number of pixels, which saves even more.
PNG is a lossless format, so its quality setting has little effect and the savings are smaller. For big savings on PNG images, choose WebP as the output format. If the new file would not be smaller, the tool keeps your original and says so. Processing runs on your device one file at a time, and no web worker or outside server is involved, so nothing is sent over the internet. Very large photos can take a few seconds, and the page stays responsive meanwhile.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression happens inside your browser, and your files never leave your device. Only the compression code itself is downloaded, the first time you press Compress.
What quality setting should I use?
For photos, 70 to 80 percent usually looks the same as the original while being much smaller. Go lower for thumbnails, and higher if you plan to edit the picture again.
Why did my PNG barely get smaller?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, so there is less to remove. Try the WebP output format, or reduce the maximum width or height.
Is there a file size limit?
Each image can be up to 50 MB, and you can add 20 at a time. Larger files take longer and need more memory on your device.
Will compression change the image size in pixels?
Only if you pick a maximum width or height. Otherwise the pixel dimensions stay the same.
